Two long flights are behind me and I'm in Asia. Someone told me about the feeling I would get when I stepped off the plane and realized "wow...this is really happening". Yeah, that about sums it up. Thai art, thai structures, a modern/simple/asian airport...lovely, and I'm here alone and it feels Great.
While in the 747 in Tokyo waiting for my second take off, the realization of this thing kind of hit too. I guess I had never really comprehended where this part of the world is in relation to the rest of it. I mean, I knew...but it's kind of like that first time you understand that 100,000 years is just the drop in the bucket in terms of geologic history. It was an "ah-ha". I realized that I was on my way to the furthest point east...yeah, I guess east, that I have ever been. I've never even flown over this part of the world much less set foot on the ground.
And here I am...for my one night in Bangkok...
My hotel is cute, unassuming, and the walls are crawling with geckos that blend in with the paint. They're kind of peachy on the legs and tail with green backs. I love the gecko click...sounds like home really. The only difference is the humidity...no trade winds here!
So, it's 1AM, I have a 7AM "wake up" call...I slept lots on the planes over so I really don't know how much I will sleep now. But, in the morning I get some kind of Thai breakfast. mmm Enough airplane food.
Good night...or good day...or whatever it may be for you.
I'm going to.... ??
